Internal conflict is when a character struggles with their own opposing desires or beliefs. It happens within them, and it drives their development as a character. External conflict sets a character against something or someone beyond their control. An example from a movie or tv show could be that Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory has an internal struggle with telling peoples emotions. One of his external struggles could be that he doesn't like it when other people succeed.
