General Cos ordered the arrest of Lorenzo de Zavala because he helped in framing the constitution of Mexico in 1824.

Manuel Lorenzo Justiniano de Zavala y Sanchez was also known as Lorenzo de Zavala. He was born in 1788 in Yucatan. Zavala was known as a dodged fighter as he was committed to fighting for the oppressed during his lifetime.

When Santa Anna, who was Zavala's former ally, created a centralized regime to oppressed Mexican Federalism, it was Lorenzo de Zavala who weakened Santa Anna's power and he was also the brain behind the Texas revolution.

Zavala was highly experienced being a principled fighter; he has also earned a very high reputation because of his commitment to fighting for the oppressed. He was highly instrumental to the Texas cause. He was imprisoned at a young age because he was not in support of the Spanish rule over Mexico.

Mexico got independence from the Spanish government in 1821 and Zavala helped in writing Mexico’s constitution.

Some of the roles played by Lorenzo de Zavala during his time in Mexico also include:

  • The Texas declaration of independence was signed by him
  • He held several political and appointed offices which include Minister of finance, ambassador to France, he was a former governor of Mexico.

  • He died of pneumonia and was buried in a family cemetery close to San Jacinto Battleground
