REM (Rapid Eye Movement)
During sleep, the mind passes through five distinct stages. One of those stages is Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep. During this stage, the eyes roll rapidly in multiple directions. The other four stages are indicated as non-REM (NREM) sleep.
During REM sleep, our mind is most active as it is if we are awake. In this stage of sleep, breathing can become accelerated and unusual. REM sleep is believed to help to strengthen the memories.
