In the poem "Musée des Beaux Arts" by W. H. Auden, we see many of the same elements that appear in Ovid's story of Daedalus and Icarus. However, the character that does not appear is that of Deadalus, the father of Icarus. The poem is inspired by the paintings that Auden saw at the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique in Brussels. One of the paintings that caused an impact on the author was <em>Landscape with the Fall of Icarus</em> by Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
