Weather can be unpredictable sometimes, and that was what happened with the "Tri-State Tornado" of 1925 that impacted Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana caused too much destruction and approximately 700 deaths.

The tornado also taught people that prevention was necessary to be prepared and have alternatives when the weather changed so drastically. Since that event, forecasting became an important activity to further prevent more disasters due to tornados.
