Matthew Bunker Ridgway was an American general who became known for his actions during the Korea War.

Expert in airborne troops, he distinguished himself during the Second World War and especially during the Korean War where he assumed supreme command of the United Nations Command after the dismissal of General Douglas MacArthur and succeeded in stabilizing the situation.

Matthew Ridgway wore the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He was also decorated with the Distinguished Service Cross, the Army Distinguished Service Medal, the American Legion of Merit and the Silver Star for courage. France made him Grand Cross in the Legion of Honor.
