Sam Houston (1793-1863), as an American soldier and politician, was the one in charge of leading the Texas militia to the battle of San Jacinto (April 21, 1836) and gaining the victory, even though their army was almost half the size of the Mexican's army led by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.
