The the beginning of the Civil War, President Lincoln ordered the U.S. Navy to place a blockade along almost 3,500 miles of Atlantic Coastline. This was so the Union could stop them from importing products in and from exporting their own good out of the country. Though many smaller Confederate shops were able to get out of the ports, they only had a little bit of goods, and the South needed much more to support their economy.

1. Read these lines from “The Darkling Thrush,” by Thomas Hardy.
netineya [11]

The correct answers are:

1. The correct answer is the option that reads “imagery, because the lines help the reader picture what Hardy describes”. In the lines presented above from the book “The Darkling Thrush” by Thomas Hardy (1900), Hardy made use of the literary device “imagery”. By definition, imagery means using figurative language to represent objects, actions, and ideas in a way that they appeal to our physical senses. Therefore, it helps the reader picture what the author describes. In this case, imagery helps the reader picture the description of the thrush that Hardy makes.

2. The correct answer is the option that reads “sight”. The line “When frost was spectre-gray” from “The Darkling Thrush” by Thomas Hardy (1900) is an example of visual imagery because it appeals to the sense of sight by describing the colour of the frost as “spectre-gray”.

3. The verb that agrees with the bolded subject of the sentence is “is”. The dictionary is one book that is in most libraries.

4. The verb that agrees with the bolded subject of the sentence is “was”. I gave directions to the tourist who was lost.

5. The verb that agrees with the bolded subject of the sentence is “was”. The Statue of Liberty is one of the gifts that was given to us by the French.

How did capitalists feel about the Industrial Revolution?

In general, the capitalist had:

Positive feelings: The industrial revolution implied people with small businesses could expand them if they had the resources to do it. This brought hope.

Negative feelings: On the other hand, capitalists were aware that competence would increase as everyone would want to expand.
