I think human societies are characterized more by competition because, in terms of surviving, nowadays, there are more living creatures than food, therefore, there are some people who will starve to death if they won't strive hard to have food to eat. The competitiveness of the humanity is not only measured in terms of surviving but also in other social sciences like economics, politics, and others, which could also relate to the needs and wants of each human.
