This is called a "topic sentence." It's common for paragraphs to have the main idea be the first sentence, because this allows the author to set up the rest of the paragraph and explain things immediately after the topic sentence.

A force between two objects is an interaction that changes momentum. If the momentum of one increases, the momentum of the other will decrease by a substantial amount. All that is needed to be thought about is is the momentum right before the two come into contact and the momentum right after they stop interacting.
