Sampsons has a very high regard for himself. The best way to illustrate his behavior is how he talks too much of his "works" and how he describes how great his works are. He has a tendency to exaggerate facts. Thus, making him a pseudo-scholar.
Implicit means something not clearly stated, so implicit details are details that are not clearly stated. Or rather, they are details that are more implied, rather than given.
