Employees have certain time segments when they are supposed to work, and when they got off of work. If you were to randomly have an employee work overtime, it is unethical because it was:
1. Unplanned, and 2. it is not in their time shift.
Now if you were to ask ahead of time (say a week notice) then it would be ethical to ask an employee to work over-time.
