During the 1930s, the aftermath of the Great Depression is still very much felt. A lot of people were still unemployed. Businesses closed down. The government under President Hoover did not do anything to help ease the burden of the unemployed citizens.

When Roosevelt won as President, he enacted programs to help the nation get back on their feet. He used the power of his office to make changes and make live more comfortable for his constituents. Thought not all programs were successful, at least the government tried their best in serving its people.
