Which revision best improves the formality of the paragraph? using the contraction “aren’t” for “are not” in sentence 1 breaking
masya89 [10]

(D) replacing “cooler” with “more dramatic” in sentence 4

The word "cooler" is slang and creates an informal tone. By changing it to "more dramatic" the formal tone is continued all the way to the end of the passage. Option A is not a good option because contractions should not be used in formal writing. Option B will not change the formality of the paragraph. Option C is also not a good choice, changing "popular" to "top" would not change the tone to being more formal.

All of the poems you read in this unit were written from a male point of view. How are women seen or valued in these poems? What
Karo-lina-s [1.5K]

From these poems of Shakespeare, Donne's and Jonson's we can see that women are seen like treasures. Women in the Middle Ages were a delicate figure, they were treated like crystal, something easily broken. This figure also matches their clothes, their attitude, what they were allowed to say in public, their manners.

The idea of the woman is nowadays very different from that concept, now women are powerful and have the same civil rights as men have. They are free to have an opinion and expose it. Women are now a strong figure.
