Taney himself was anti-slavery. He had made the choice to free the slaves he had inherited before taking his seat on the Supreme

Court. As a Supreme Court Justice, however, he was supposed to make judgments based on the Constitution and laws of the United States. There are two main approaches to interpreting the Constitution. Strict Constructionalism focuses on the meaning of the Constitution as it was intended by those who wrote it. Loose Constructionalism reads the Constitution as if it were a contemporary document, applying current beliefs to the interpretation. Based on the selection, do you believe that Taney allowed his personal opinions to bias him, or whether he used either a Strict or Loose Constructionalism interpretation of the Constitution. Explain why you think as you do, quoting from the primary source to support your opinion.

Why would Gorbachev's decision to send in troops to crush the Lithuanian rebellion be seen as hypocritical
QveST [7]
It might have been seen as hypocritical because he claimed that the Soviets did not use armed people and weapons during the uprising and he wanted for Lithuanians to come back to the Soviets voluntarily. He did threaten with weapons and war, but it would be hypocritical to use it since he claimed that they were not aggressive.

What was one of Alexandria's great attractions?
satela [25.4K]

Answer:

The correct answer is A. A big lighthouse.

Explanation:

The Pharos in Alexandria is widely regarded as one of the Seven Classic Wonders of the World. The tower bore the same name as the small island off the coast of Alexandria on which it was built.  It was the first lighthouse ever built, between 297 and 283 BC, and served for almost 1500 years successively for the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Arabs.  According to Arab and European travel accounts, the lighthouse was in service until about 1375 when a severe earthquake plunged the top half of the light installation into the sea. After that, the tower was not repaired. By the 15th century it had fallen into ruin. The remaining first floor was incorporated in the 16th century in a fort that still stands on Pharos today.
