y = -1/3 x+9

m = ( -1 -8)/(2 - 5)

    -9/-3

   =3

We want a line that is perpendicular so it is the negative reciprocal

-1 /(3)

The slope of the perpendicular line is -1/3

y= mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept

y = -1/3x+b

We have a point of (6,7)

7 = -1/3 (6) +b

7 = -2 +b

Add 2 to each side

7 +2 = -2+b+2

9 = b

The equation of the line is y = -1/3 x+9
