A) 1880–1922: Pogroms

A series of hundreds of murderous Anti-Jewish pogroms sweep Russia. A huge wave of over 2.5 million Jewish immigrants begins to leave Eastern Europe for the USA.

B) 1880–1904: The first Aliyah:

At the same time as 2.5 million Jews were leaving for America, a small wave of about 35,000 young Zionist pioneers leaves Eastern Europe for the Turkish controlled province of Palestine.

C) 1897: First Zionist Congress.
