He starts to run back to the door he came from and in the stands the princess watches in pure cruelty. She did in fact let her feelings get the best of her, she was selfish only thinking that he can only be with her and if he dies quickly they will meet in the blessed place.

Yes the princess told the man, whom she loved, the right door and in this case had the hungry tiger on the other side of it. The whole point of this system is to let nature take its course, to play the game of chance. The princess knew which door had the tiger and the man trusted she would make the decision to tell him the opposite but instead led him to his death.
