She pushed me down to the dirt and forcefully shoved one foot onto my chest— pushing me down as I struggle to get up like a fish out of water. She smiled kindly at me and continued to push me down as I writhe under her touch. Her smile was warm, but as she watched me struggle helplessly, a dark, sadistic shadow graced her elegant visage.

“Poor, poor, child..” She cooed, as if mocking me. The blade of her katana gently caressed my neck. “Fighting back won’t help you anymore. Just give up. It’s much more easier.”

She roughly shoved me further onto the ground. Tears were threatening to leak from the corners of my eyes. She was too strong. A beginner demon slayer like me could never beat her. No, thinking like this would never get me anywhere.

Glaring at her with sheer determination, I use all my strength to push her off and get back up on my feet. I spat out some blood that was dribbling onto my chin. Its metallic flavor feuling my anger and will power.

“I refuse to lose. Not without a fight, hashira.” I fix my stance and position my katana. Concentration is key. “Water-breathing. Third form.”

She smiled kindly and positioned her katana—ready to fight. “I’m glad you have such resolve, Kiyari.”

I didn’t hear her words, all I could focus on was the blood pumping through my body. Like water rushing from a river. I slowly open my eyes as the water circles around me. Water-Breathing Third form was just like any other forms. But this was different. It felt more... powerful... It was like a tsunami was rising and about to hit the rocks on the beach. Even the Insect Hashira, Shinobu, smile tensed up as if she were surprised by the aura reflecting off of me.

“Yare, yare, you won’t be able to walk after this move, Kiyari.”

I don’t care anymore. All I can see is the waves splashing around me. Soaking my loose kimono and licking at my hair. I’m in a state of limbo. Pain doesn’t matter to me anymore. I close my eyes. I don’t care anymore.

I run with all my strength and slice. I don’t know what I sliced. But it felt important to me.

I open my eyes. There I see an insect hashira smiling at me as her half of her mask falls apart and shatters to the ground. The other half soon follows and hits the dirt. The fragile material of the mask shining in the grace of the moon.

I look up at the sky. It’s midnight. How long had we been fighting?

I look back at Shinobu in shock. She smiles kindly, this time, with true genuine happiness for me.

“Congratulation, my child.” She bowed respectfully. I quickly answered back with another bow. “You have passed the exam.”

Essential Question/Assumption: “What is taught is what is learned.”

I disagree with this assumption.

Students are taught language in class for them to learn based on the curriculum that needed to be completed by the students and the teachers. They are given those important language modules with contents and lessons like grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc. Indeed, they are taught with information but it doesn’t mean they acquire them. It all boils down if the taught language is acquired or just another information delivered but passively learned.

Basically, what is taught in class is controlled and normally followed a rote learning process aiming to get good scores in exams. This kind of learning is very objective and information learned is forgotten day by day when the information learned is not relevant to daily conversations.

We can see that students who passively learned English through movie watching, constant reading can learn more quickly than those students diligently study words and verbs which are taught in class.

You would be surprised when a teacher asks a student a particular idea taught in class. However, student can answer more sensible information aside from what is taught, since answers are based on student understanding, which is not directly taught by the teacher. The student comes up with answers based on her/his research, previous readings, instructions from home or peers. So learning is not limited to what is taught but it’s more of synthesizing everything. The fact about what is taught in class is just bridging the information students have learned previously.

Somehow what is taught is just an additional information that can help students improve their language learning. Aside from what they have learned in class, they also have their extra reading and information that can help them improve in learning a language.

The man's eyes grew glassy and lifeless like some kind of horrible, demented doll. James hadn't meant to do it, but now, he could never take it back.

His heartbeat quickened, pounding in his chest, robbing him of the cold gasps of air he yearned for. His eyes burned with crystalline tears that threatened to spill, cascading down his pale cheeks, stinging from the knifelike winds.

<em>I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.</em>

The moon was hanging in the sky eerily, reminding him of brighter days, better days where it was Apollo, not Artemis that smiled down, sun-kissed rays covering them both.

Better days where he laughed clear, transcendent laughs, so godly James could've sworn it was ichor that flowed through his bloodstream, not blood. Pure gold flowing from his fingertips, painting with the world as his canvas.

He remembered the saccharine nectar that brought back the taste of peaches, bursting with sweet juice that coated their cheeks.

Love was an odd thing, so convoluted, clouded with invisible particles, obscuring your vision. It was constricting at times, tying him down whilst he yearned for freedom, tethered by his own heartstrings. He'd clawed his way out of its confines, but his captor? It was none other than himself.

<em>Oh.</em>

A burning resentment filled his throat, all the words they'd left unspoken, years of memories, his lingering touch.

Why, why, <em>why, </em>did he let it happen? He knew of the betrayal that James would partake in. Yet his face had remained merry, his smile nothing short of sincere.

He knew, and yet he smiled his divine smile, his voice barely able to conceal the hurt the resonated within his soul, echoing through the chambers of his diaphragm.

He knew and he let it happen.

He let the dagger impale his abdomen, the scarlet red blood that should've been ichor blooming, like a flower, opening its petals to the welcome of the sun.

James stared at his stained hands, then back at the cold, empty corpse.

His eyes, they were still open.

Once upon a time, there had been a boy, his heart full of golden dreams and eyes made to match. Light amber brown, like toasted caramels and wheat fields.

Once upon a time, two boys had promised, their pinkies locking in an all-omniscient gesture of forever.

But as James knelt forward, gently touching his fingers to the pallid lids, he supposed he should've known that his golden boy would be the one to make the ultimate sacrifice for his greed.
