The author presents how HeLa cells were very susceptible to the polio virus, in addition to being fast growing. This made these cells valuable for polio research.

Explanation:

Polio was one of the most feared diseases of the twentieth century, because it caused many victims, mainly children, causing irreversible damage. For this reason, research into vaccines against polio was extremely important and moved many laboratories around the world. However, there was a problem with this research, which was the difficulty of testing the vaccines created. In this case, HeLa cells were discovered, which were easy to be multiplied in the laboratory and were very susceptible to the polio virus, being the perfect element for carrying out the tests, making it a valuable cell for research against this disease.
