Which of these sentences, taken from a personal narrative about Christopher Columbus, MOST needs to be revised to make it more f
klemol [59]

Answer:

D) Most people figured that Columbus discovered America, made friends with the Indians, and then told everyone else about this land.

Explanation:

Revision of any text or passage is need for a number of reasons, ranging from a simple grammar mistake to making the paper more precise, focused, structured, etc. The revision also allows for improved analytical skills, challenging one's own ideas, more strengthened argument, etc.

Among the given sentences, the one that needs to be revised is sentence D. Looking at the words used in this particular sentence, it is evident that the words are too informal, be it using<em> "most people figured", "made friends", or "told everyone else"</em>. They make the sentence too simple, too friendly, something one does with a close friend or relative. If these words are revised with words like 'most people believed', 'formed close relationship/ befriended', or 'revealed to everyone', then that makes the sentence seem more formal.

Thus, the correct answer is option D.

if voting doesn't matter for the average person, why do so many of the powerful people in charge try so hard to keep certain peo
notka56 [123]

Answer:

I think, after this election especially, voting is actually beginning to matter for more people. I think our population is (hopefully) beginning to realize that they <em>can </em>have an affect on who their leader is. A reason a powerful person may not necessarily want the average citizen to know this is because they want to stay in power. If we don't know we can make a difference, we can't hurt their power. A horrible way of thinking, but unfortunately the way many power-craving people behave.

aalyn [17]

Answer:

c. Instead of experiencing the joy of gaining a son-in-law, Mrs. Crater feels the sorrow of losing her daughter.

Explanation:

The excerpt presents a situational irony that refers to the situation where something is expected to happen, but the opposite happens. In the case of the excerpt, the reader might be expecting Mrs. Carter to be happy that her daughter was married, happy, and given a new member to the family, who is Mrs. Carter's son-in-law. However, instead of Mrs. Carter being happy to have a new son-in-law, Mrs. Carter was very sad to see her daughter leaving her home and tracing her own path.
