- x - 3y = 7 → (2)

- 5y = 25 ( divide both sides by - 5 )

y = - 5

Substitute y = - 5 into either of the 2 equations and solve for x

Substituting into (1)

3x + 4(- 5) = 4

3x - 20 = 4 ( add 20 to both sides )

3x = 24 ( divide both sides by 3 )

x = 8
