In what ways did Reconstruction improve life for African-Americans and create a different political order after the Civil War? I
krek1111 [17]
Positives: former slaves acquired many new opportunities such as voting rights, receive an education, legally marry, sign contracts, file lawsuits, etc. in 1868, 700,000 African Americans were registered voters. There was a greater economic opportunity as well.

Negatives: while African Americans did have more economic opportunities, slavery still existed, but in systems such as free labor. Two examples are sharecropping and convict leasing. These two forms of labor are comparable to slavery(in humane). African Americans were kept in debt due to these labor forms. Furthermore, Jim Crow developed around this time. Jim Crow is segregation. These forms of segregation continued to the 1900s.

8_murik_8 [283]

Answer:

Because they show their love for each other with the gifts and the narrator wants readers to understand that when someone loves someone, he/she will do anything in order for the other person to benefit. This is why the narrator thinks Jim and Della are wise.

Explanation:

The story had an ironic ending since Jim sold his watch to buy Della a comb and Della sold her hair to buy a chain for Jim's watch. This means both gifts are useless for both characters but it shows the characters' true love for each other and the fact that they would do anything for each other.
