Totalitarianism is favored when the population is dissatisfied with the incompetence of democratic governments to solve serious social problems, which end up affecting the economy and the lives of citizens. An example of this can be seen at the end of the first world war, where many countries suffered a strong economic recession, such as Germany, favoring the rise of authoritarian leaders who accused democratic systems of failing to solve the population's problems. Another recent example can be seen in Brazil, where the population, hopeless with the constant cases of corruption, elected a president who oscillates between facism and authoritarianism.

The cure for this is, mainly, to promote the growth of a population that is politically educated, that way that population will be able to recognize leaders who are not committed to solving problems, but with total control and the imposition of their ideas inappropriate and extremely limiting.
