With time the abolitionists grew bold in their demands while slave owners resisted and became entrenched in opposing the abolitionists, a situation that fuelled regional divisiveness that ultimately resulted in the American civil war.
The abolitionist kept pressing the Lincoln administration to end slavery and in 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation was made.
