Poland

The agriculture of Poland has always been really important. At least 60% of Poland is farm/agricultural land. A few of the many products include rye, potatoes, apples, pork, and milk. If you didn't know, rye is a type of grain grown as a cover crop, or a forage crop.

In 1914, the first world war starts. During this time, most of the battles occurred on the eastern front of the soon-to-be territory of Poland (Galicia). After many battles in the war, Poland had finally became an independent country and now occupies the land we now call Poland. In 1918, Marshall Józef Pilsudski became the "Chief of the State". Young Poland had had an unstable border, and a large amount of wars. Many people in Poland have been in an unrest state, so many uprisings and wars with nearby countries occurred. Many years later, on March 1st, 2004 Poland joins the European Union, as well as 9 other countries. For everyone, it is hard to see the possible European future for the people of Poland. In the early year of 2005, Poland suffers a big loss when Polish Pope Jean Paul II dies in Vaticin, Rome.

Poland doesn't exactly have a main religion, But the largest church was/is the Roman Catholic Church. The majority (close to somewhere around 87%) of the population of Poland is Roman-Catholic. The freedom of beliefs and religion are garanteed by the constitution.

Poland's form of government is democracy. It's government has a type of semi-president aspect to it. Poland's local government is organized on three different quanities. The largest units, which are at the regional level, are the provinces. These "provinces" were combined an reduced severely from 49 to 16 in the year of 1999.

Overall, the Government, agriculture, Religion, and history have all developed the Proud country of Poland, and have been very peacful during the last few years.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF METIS JOURNAL, I WROTE IT HOPE U LIKE IT ;))) XD

its complete... lol but it okay

We, who live in the west, were Nomadic. So we always moved from place to place to hunt buffalo and other fur-bearing animals. And now again we have to shift everything we collected , like, all the essential needs we collected. It’s really hard to shift stuff, But when you move to a new place you get to see new beautiful places. They are just so satisfying to see! It’s like all my work(like the shifting work) is paid off. I love it! We always meet the Hudson’s bay company employees, and give them furs which we took from the bissons and other furry animals we hunted. And in exchange they give us their (Hudson’s Bay company) goods. Which is good! Because then we or I won't be able to enjoy that delicious pemmican!

The one reason that makes me proud of my parents is that because of them I am like a translator for both sides in the fur trade! Anyways coming back to the present. As I said before, we were moving today to another place, But on the way some people along with my father will ride the famous York boats carrying supplies to fur posts. I begged my father to take me with him! And as usual he gave me some silly reason for me to stay. And now since I don’t have anything to do I will-..Nevermind, My mom’s calling me. Okay after helping my mom keep the fur posts into the York boats me , my mom, and the others are just relaxing and enjoying nature just to take a break. Since, I am so obsessed with my Journal notebook today I’m just going to sit here and right what comes to my mind. I’m not like the others who always seem to be talking with someone. I like my own space!

I kind of miss my dad already, but he and his fellow members need to travel the waterways from the red river further west and north to hudson bay. These red river carts also travel the trek back and forth over land to St. Paul, Minnesota and to posts in saskatchewan.  Speaking about the red river, the only large settlement in the region is the red colony. About 12000 people lived in this colony around Fort Garry. Some were the original Selkirk settlers or their descendents. They had come from Scotland with lord Selkirk when he established the colony in 1811. Many of these original settlers were poor farmers who had been displaced  from their lands in scotland. They had endured many hardships in the early years of settlement, including foods, hunger, and sickness. I love studying about other colonies, cultures , history etc.

Explain in your own words how Henry Grady affected the South’s economy during the Reconstruction period?
Delicious77 [7]

Henry Grady was a Georgian journalist who encouraged the industrialization of the South following the model of the North. After the Civil War, the North experienced a period of fast industrialization and a rapid technological advance. All this prosperity was boosted by the Industrial Revolution that affected all over in the world during the 1800s. In contrast, the South was still predominantly agricultural. Its economy was based in a <em>sharecropping model</em>, in which white landlords had their fields worked and tended by farm laborers. Under this system, the landlord would provide the capital (usually obtained by a loan) to buy seeds and equipment, and the laborers would work. The profit would be not equally divided between both parts. Because of the low prices of the products, the farmers often fell in a cycle of indebtedness. This system left both farmers and workers in deep poverty. Grady had a voice. He was not just a journalist, but a newspaper editor with great oratory skills. In a series of public speeches, he envisioned an industrialized South, with manufacturing facilities, commerce and "<em>thrilling with the consciousness of growing power and prosperity</em>", in his words. This remake would be called <u>"New South"</u> and its main feature would be a "<em>diversified industry that meets the complex needs of this (the post-Reconstruction period) complex age</em>". His speeches motivated politics and he gained the empathy of the public in general. The modernization did happen, but it wasn't quite the same as Henry had dreamed. Some success could be seen in the iron and steel manufacturing segments. The textile mills was a great initiative, but it could have had more success if the wages weren't so low. Henry also defended the white supremacy and this idea held back the economic improvement. While landlords and factories prospered, the low-wage factoring work kept many in dire poverty.

Why did world war I become global in scope instead of remaining a regional conflict ?
oksano4ka [1.4K]
Because most countries involved in the war had alliances with others. And when one was attacked the ally came to protect the other. Therefore countries became more and more involved in the war
