According to "The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain," one powerful way that the standard of whiteness affects African America
ahrayia [7]

According to <em>"The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain"</em>, one powerful way that the standard of whiteness affects African Americans is through the unconscious.

In the poem, the author states this idea very well at the beginnig of the poem when he says: <em>"...I want to be a poet, not a Negro poet..." </em>One can interpret that the poet has a conscious desire to be white or an unconscious desire not to be black.

The use of whiteness as a standard of beauty and wellness is another powerful way to impact African Americans.

<em>Langston Hughes</em> wrote "The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain" in 1926.

In the poem, Hughes wrote about the lives of Black People in Balck neighbourhoods in the United States.

6TH GRADE QUESTION HERE LOL.......pls help T-T
Diano4ka-milaya [45]

Answer:

In Alan E. Nourse's story "Gold in the Sky", he intentionally sets a tone of tension and conflict so that the audience can experience how the main character Greg is feeling.

First off, he starts off with describing how uncomfortable Greg is physically. He writes, "Greg twisted around in the cockpit that had been built just big enough to hold him, and shifted his long legs against the brace-webbing, trying to get them comfortable." This sentence helps the reader to envision the situation Greg is in and put themselves in his shoes. He has to do an important mission, but being cramped just makes his nerves worse.

Next, Nourse writes about Greg's inner thoughts. He states, "He knew he was afraid ... but nobody else knew that, not even the captain waiting at the control board on the satellite, and in spite of the fear Greg Hunter would not have traded places at this moment with anyone else in the universe." Greg is afraid of failing, and the fact that he can't share his feelings with anyone makes the reader feel tension.

Lastly, Greg begins to think about his brother. There is obviously some tension within their relationship, or at least that is how Greg sees it. The author writes, "Tom could never have qualified for a job like this... Greg felt a surge of pity for his brother, and then a twinge of malicious anticipation. Wait until Tom heard the reports on this run! It was all right to spend your time poking around with bottles and test tubes if you couldn't do anything else, but it took something special to pilot an XP ship for Project Star-Jump. And after this run was over, even Tom would have to admit it...." Greg wants to prove to his brother that he is better than him, and although it is a dangerous job, he's willing to do it to prove to his brother that he is better. This adds conflict between Greg and his brother, and sets a tone of urgency and the need for Greg to succeed.

In conclusion, the author Alan E. Nourse sets up tones of tension and conflict in his story by describing the situation Greg is in, showing his inner thoughts, and introducing how Greg feels he has to be better than his brother.

Professional Electronic Communication

Objectives

• Evaluate the appropriate uses and implications of casual versus professional language

• Evaluate the implications of language used in a public forum

What’s in it for me?

Electronic communication is increasingly becoming the way we do business and communicate with our friends via SNS and e-mail. Because we can’t hear the words in an electronic communication, we can’t transmit nuances that can clarify intent. That missing element allows for greater misinterpretation when messages are sent without careful regard.

What About the Widgets?

Section I: The Scenario

What a piece of junk! Your product is completely worthless! You’re so incompetent, I’ll bet you can’t even read this message, much less manufacture a widget that actually works. I demand my money back plus 10% for the pain and suffering your worthless widget has caused me.

If I don’t hear from you immediately, the next message you get will be from my attorney!

Aiden Grey

Imagine that you own and operate an online company that sells widgets. You receive the following e-mail:

Tip!

Try to separate what the writer wants from the way he’s expressing himself. Also consider what you need to find out from this writer.

Section II: Letter to Customer

Directions: As owner of the online company, analyze the customer’s message and write an appropriate response on a separate sheet of paper or in your eNotes. Your goal is to make your customer happy and feel like he is treated fairly and with respect.
