The people of New Amsterdam where mostly concerned with trade and not religion. true or false
ArbitrLikvidat [17]
Dutch in New York
Dutch began building a trading station they called New Amsterdam, located at the mouth of the Hudson River. They quickly realized that the best spot for their homes was the beautiful island of Manhattan. The director of the colony, Peter Minuit, traded goods with the local Native Americans for the right to use the island. Meanwhile, the company also built Fort Orange upstream from the mouth of the Hudson and not far from the site of Albany, the modern capital of New York State.
The Dutch established connections with Native American trade in much the same way the Europeans linked up with existing trade in West Africa. The Dutch were less interested in conquering or transforming the countryside than in simply obtaining furs by trade. The settlers soon built up a prosperous trade in furs and other goods with Europe. In 1655, the Dutchman Adriaen Van der Donck gave three reasons for Dutch trading success in New Netherland:
"First, it is a fine fruitful country. Secondly, it has fine navigable rivers extending far inland, by which the productions of the country can be brought to places of [sale]. [Thirdly,] the Indians, without our labor or trouble, bring to us their fur trade, worth tons of gold, which may be increased, and is like goods found"
Farmers also grew wheat and rye on their Manhattan lands, and increased production of more crops as their holdings expanded along the Hudson and Delaware rivers. The settlers shipped most of these products to other colonies.
New Amsterdam became a port where Dutch, Swedish, French, German, English, and many other people carried on peaceful business together. Some 18 different languages were spoken in its streets. Religious tolerance was a firm rule. The town even boasted the first synagogue, or house of Jewish worship, on the North American continent.
Although Dutch rule was generally mild, the last governor, Peter Stuyvesant, was often at odds with the colonists. They wanted more self-government, and the hot-tempered Stuyvesant yielded little.
he English looked on the prosperity of the Dutch colony with envious eyes. In 1664, the English king, Charles II, decided to make a move. He declared that the entire region of the Dutch colonies belonged to his brother, the Duke of York.
The Duke of York sent a fleet of four ships and several hundred soldiers to New Amsterdam. The town had no fort or other defenses, and the Dutch realized at once that they could do nothing to stop the English. Although Stuyvesant stormed and raged, the Dutch would not fight, and in the end he was forced to give up the town. New Amsterdam was immediately renamed New York and became an English colony. Soon the rest of New Netherland surrendered to the English.

In November of 1832, the South Carolina government called for a convention, or meeting, to
UNO [17]

Answer:

1. The South Carolina representatives vote to...

 • Why: The SC representatives were protesting the "Tariff of Abominations," which was a high tax on goods. They were not a fan of strong federal power, so they voted to ignore his law.

2. President Jackson is furious about...

 • Why: Jackson, oh Jackson. What an unconventional guy. He was an advocate of states' rights at times, but he also had no problems with grabbing the reins and controlling unruly states. He threatened to use federal power, and they eventually succumbed, but this was very controversial.

3. As Jackson raises an army to back up...

 • Why: SC realizes that it can't hold up against a federal army, so it backs down.

4. The South Carolina convention decides to accept...

 • Why: Congress makes a compromise with SC by allowing it a lower tariff. Obviously this would annoy Jackson, because he didn't want to be undermined, but eventually this led to peace, for now.

What is the longest war in history?
agasfer [191]
Although this isn't quite confirmed, it is considered that Germanic wars are the longest-lasting wars in history. They lasted for 800 years, starting from 220 BCE until 580 AD, and were fought between Romans and various Germanic tribes. However, if you need a war in the newer history, the second longest war is known as Reconquista, which is a war fought between Christian Kingdoms and the Muslim Moors, and lasted for about 770 years.

According to Hannah E. Britton and Taylor Price, in "If Good Food is Cooked in One Country, We Will All Eat From It: Women and C
Svet_ta [14]

The African Renaissance refer to "The Roman republic began with the establishment of a representative government."

Explanation:

Civil society has been a form of group activity for women across the whole of Africa to advocate for social progress, opportunities, and political participation. While the tactics used differ from time to time, the influence of civil society, both openly and secretly, is used by women throughout the continent to mobilize for change.

The Romans had developed a system of government, a constitution that has been replicated by countries for hundreds of years In addition; the government of America is based partly on the design of Rome. All of these issues started with the Romans overthrowing their Etruscan conquistadors in 509 B.C.E

The Romans, when free, formed a republic, a state that elected representatives of people to rules on their behalf. A republic is really different from a democratic government where every civilian should play an equal part in state governance.
