Babylonian Exile, also named Babylonian Captivity, the forced confinement of Jews in Babylonia following the latter's triumph of the kingdom of Judah in 598/7 and 587/6 BCE. The exile formally completed in 538 be, when the Persian victor of Babylonia, Cyrus the Great, gave the Jews liberty to return to Palestine.
