The passage that best summarizes the ideas from both texts is:

D. The United States wanted to move westward to fulfill their Manifest Destiny, experience religious freedoms, and obtain more land and natural resources.

Americans believed that it was their divine responsibility to spread liberty to The West. Some people moved westward to freely practice their religious beliefs.

One of the largest attractions of The West was the vast amount of land. There were also numerous natural resources, including gold. Land, natural resources, religious freedom, and Manifest Destiny were all reasons why the United States looked westward.

What is an example of personification?
Dafna11 [192]

Answer:

c. The mist rolled over the trees in the mountains.

Explanation:

A figures of speech is also referred to as figurative language and it can be defined as a deliberate and specific construction or use of language by writers, authors or speakers to create a special effect in their speech or literary work (write-ups).

In English literature, the main purpose of the figures of speech (figurative language) is to convey more information and enable the readers or listeners have a deeper understanding of a literary work. Some examples of the figures of speech (figurative language) used in literature are simile, paradox, metaphor, apostrophe, hyperbole, personification, etc.

Personification involves intentionally attributing life, human characteristics (qualities) or feelings and emotions to inanimate objects i.e non-living things.

An example of personification is saying, the mist rolled over the trees in the mountains. Thus, the object or thing which was personified is "mist" because it is an inanimate object (a non-living thing) but was being described as rolling over the trees.

In reality, inanimate objects (non-living things) such as mist, balloons, tables, pencils, chair, wrist-watch, etc., do not possess the ability to roll.

What things were happening in Salem that causes the people to blame witchcraft?
aksik [14]

Well, what we do know is that witches and the Devil were a very real concern to the Salem Villagers, as they were to many colonists. But since Salem had been experiencing a number of hardships at the time, such as disease epidemics, war and political strife, it wasn’t hard to convince some of the villagers that witches were to blame for their misfortune. Once the idea took hold in the colony, things seemed to quickly got out of hand. I really hopes this helps! *hugs*
