The correct answer is B.

In the original sentence sampling/samples are repeated which is unnecessary. In addition the woman who is getting married can be simplified down to 'the bride'. The word cake doesn't need to be repeated again also. So the simplified version of the original sentence without repetition would be 'After tasting cake samples, the bride picked the best flavor'.

CONNECT: In the final paragraph, Wallace writes that there can be "a fine line between smart and selfish," and that
Alekssandra [29.7K]

One of the contrast that she presents is the Fight or Flight contrast. She writes:

"Animals confronted with danger will choose to attack it, or run from it, and it's hard to say which one they'll choose, or when." This is one example of how Wallace supports the above claim.

What is the theme of Lane Wallace's article "Is survival Selfish?"?

The author - Lane Wallace is saying that society sometimes judges those who survive harshly. Because survival conditions are complicated, no one knows if the individual will defend himself or others. Because every circumstance is unique. Her submission is that Self-preservation is an instinct.

One of the textual evidence that supports the above is:

"I remember reading the account of one woman who was in an airliner that crashed on landing. People were frozen or screaming, but nobody was moving toward the emergency exits, even as smoke began to fill the cabin. After realizing that the people around her were too paralyzed to react, she took direct action, crawling over several rows of people to get to the exit.

She got out of the plane and survived. Very few others in the plane, which was soon consumed by smoke and fire, did. And afterward, I remember she said she battled a lot of guilt for saving herself instead of trying to save the others."
