13.4= 134/10

9.6= 96/10

342/10 = 134/10 + 96/10x

Multiply each term by the LCM, 10

= 342 = 134 + 96x

= 96x = 342 - 134

= 96x = 208

divide both sides by the co-efficient of x which is 96

= 96x/96 = 208/96

= x = 13/6
