Why was the council of 500 democratic institution
GrogVix [38]

Answer:

It supervised the state's finances, navy, cavalry, sacred matters, building and shipping matters and care for invalids and orphans. Its own members staffed many boards that oversaw the finer points of these many administrative duties. Cleisthenes.  took power in 508 BCE.  destroyed the remaining power of the aristocratic families by replacing the old noble tribes with 10 new ones and making sure that each new tribe was made up of a mix of classes.  also gave the Assembly the right to make and enforce laws. There could be no appeal from its decisions.  created the Council of 500. Those in the Council were selected by lottery from the ten tribes. They advised the assembly and supervised the actions of the archons.  set the minimum age to be an archon at 30.  created the Board of 10 Generals. The people elected generals-one from each tribe. I believe that citizens have a responsibility to vote on all matters. Votes were held on average every ten days. However, ten percent of the citizens had to show up in order for a vote to take place. That meant that 5,000 people had to show up.

alexandr402 [8]

Answer:because the Spanish had a caste system that included free Africans and former slaves.

We know that some people from African descendants were not slaves in Spanish American colonies because the Spanish had a caste system that included free Africans and former slaves.

Cristopher Columbus established the first Spanish colony in America, in what now is Haiti and The Dominic Republic. Since the beginning, Spanish used slavery from Indigenous people in the Americas and they also brought black Africans. Spanish had “Castas”, the equivalent of racial and social hierarchies. Spanish considered slaves inferior beings

How did European colonial powers limit economic opportunities for Africans in the early 20th century?
SIZIF [17.4K]

Africa was developing independently until it was taken by the capitalist powers of colonial Europe. Exploitation increased preventing this society of the benefit of their natural resources. By the early 20th century much of Africa, except Ethiopia and Liberia, had been colonized by European powers; even though African societies put up various forms of resistance against colonization. Between 1870 and 1900, Africa encountered military invasions done by Europe which led to an eventual conquest and colonization.

The European colonial powers were motivated by political, social and economic factors. It is important to note that Europe's first motivation for their intrusion was economic. It all started with the disintegration of the slave trade's benefits, its elimination and extinction, as well as the growth of the Industrial Revolution in Europe. Europe also wanted to control and have more lands that had raw materials which they needed for their industrial economy, and to open new markets for the goods made by them. This led to Europeans settling for extraction, appropriation of land for settlers or plantations, which made Africans to sell their work to European farmers, planters or mine-owners. Economy was monopolized by Europeans.
