What led to the outbreak of the bloodiest conflict in the history of North America? A common explanation is that the Civil War was fought over the moral issue of slavery. In fact, it was the economics of slavery and political control of that system that was central to the conflict. A key issue was states' rights.
The Northern States of the United States wanted to abolish slavery while the Southern States disagreed with the Nothern sides. President Abraham Lincoln also wanted to abolish slavery so he declared Civil War within the country, the Northern states against the Southern states. After 4 years, the Northern states won and the thirteenth amendment abolished slavery within the country.
