English settlers moved to America to make better homes for their children. French and Spanish settlers moved to America to searc

h for gold and rich fur trade. All of the colonists learned how to survive hardships of living in a wilderness. Some of the hardships they had to deal with were hard winters, Indian attacks, and learning to farm soil unfamiliar to them.
