Answer:

Setting long-term goals will assist in how a person thinks, it sets a mentality of hard work and will to reach said goals, for example, a person that sets learning a language and is determinted to learn the language will eventually learn it.

It's how long-term goals change someone's ability to think of something, it's easier when it's stretched, and more desirable when someone has the will to land that dream job or dream position they're after.

Read Ti-Jean and His Brothers by Derek Walcott

What is Mi-Jean's strategy for dealing with the Planter/Devil's wiles?

Answer:

Mi-Jean, the second-oldest brother, plans to use his intellectual abilities, which he considers better than all others, to outsmart the Devil. He plans to smile and refuse to speak while working for the planter to avoid any confrontation.

Explanation:

The Devil had promised great wealth and property to the brother who can make him angry. However, if one of the boys gets angry instead, the Devil wins and can eat him.

While Mi-Jean is working, the Planter/Devil insults his intelligence, making the boy angry and therefore the Devil eats him.
