All the conflicts in Macbeth reach a resolution in act V, scene VIII. Macduff confronts Macbeth and fights him. Macbeth boasts that he has nothing to fear as a man born of woman cannot harm him. Macduff tells Macbeth that he was “ripped untimely” from his mother’s womb, hence he is “not of woman born.” Macbeth is aghast. He knows that he faces death and that the witches’ prophecy has only misguided him. When Macduff kills Macbeth, he rids the throne of Scotland of a self-serving tyrant.
