1. The correct answer is B. The doctor prescribes a mustard plaster after a river prawn had embedded itself in the aunt's calf while bathing in the river. The doctor originally assumed it was nothing, but a month later it hadn't healed. He prescribed the mustard plaster to force the river prawn out. However, it did not work and she decided to leave the river prawn in her calf.

2. The correct answer is C. The doctor's son has a paper silhouette. The author references his silhouette while talking about how the young doctor would come to exam the aunt each week and then lean against a chair in the parlor with flowers to give to the youngest. The youngest decided to marry the doctor's son.

3. The correct answer is C. The youngest married the doctor, but soon wondered if it wasn't just his silhouette that resembled paper, but also his soul. He had pried out the doll's eyes and pawned them for a fancy gold pocket watch. A few months later, the doctor wanted to sell the doll's porcelain hands and face, but the youngest said that ants had devoured them as they had confused the porcelain for sugar.

4. The correct answer is true. Subjects that are part of a compound subject must have the same verb. A compound subject means that a sentence has two or more subjects, which are normally joined by and, or, neither, or nor. An example is "Susan and John go to the park." The subjects are Susan and John and the verb used is go. It would be impossible to use two different verbs after Susan and John.

5. The answer is false. A compound verb occurs when two or more verbs are needed to describe the action taken by the subject. These are also joined by a coordinating conjunction, such as and. Other types of compound verbs include a prepositional verb (ex. believe in), a phrasal verb (ex. take off), verbs with auxiliaries (ex. was talking), and compound single-word verbs (ex. overburden). It is not necessary for the verb to be plural or to have to different subjects. Some examples are "Bianca will take off her jacket." and "Sammy skipped and ran all the way to the park."

How does romeo and juliet relate to west side story?
Sliva [168]

When Romeo sees Juliet for the first time, he is struck by her beauty and breaks into a sonnet. The imagery Romeo uses to describe Juliet gives important insights into their relationship. Romeo initially describes Juliet as a source of light, like a star, against the darkness: "she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night." As the play progresses, a cloak of interwoven light and dark images is cast around the pair. The lovers are repeatedly associated with the dark, an association that points to the secret nature of their love because this is the time they are able to meet in safety. At the same time, the light that surrounds the lovers in each other's eyes grows brighter to the very end, when Juliet's beauty even illuminates the dark of the tomb. The association of both Romeo and Juliet with the stars also continually reminds the audience that their fate is "star-cross'd."

Romeo believes that he can now distinguish between the artificiality of his love for Rosaline and the genuine feelings Juliet inspires. Romeo acknowledges his love was blind, "Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight / For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night."

Romeo's use of religious imagery from this point on — as when he describes Juliet as a holy shrine — indicates a move towards a more spiritual consideration of love as he moves away from the inflated, overacted descriptions of his love for Rosaline.
