Diffusion can be defined as a phenomenon that occurs in liquid or gases which is the process of movement of solute particles from area of high concentration to low concentration.

Further Explanation:

Diffusion is the physiological process in which the particles in the solution move from an area of high concentration to area of low concentration. This process occurs under the influence of concentration gradient.

The following factors affect the process of diffusion,

1. The concentration gradient.

2. Temperature.

3. Area.

4. Distance.

One of the examples of the diffusion in living organism is respiration. Respiration process is the diffusion of oxygen in the blood which helps in the oxygenation of blood. The place where this process occurs is alveoli, the air sacs is surrounded carbon dioxide. The diffusion of oxygen takes place and the blood gets oxygenated.

The other example of diffusion is observed in plants in the case of absorption of water by the root hair. The water diffuses in the root and is carried through the stem by the help of the process of transpiration.

Diffusion, in biology terms, can be defined as a process when molecules move from a high concentration area, to an area of low concentration. To illustrate, if you were to drop a drop of red food coloring in clear water, the way the color is spreading throughout the water would be an example of diffusion.
