From the excerpt, we can infer that population trends depended on Trade and settlement resulting from maize cultivation.

Before Christopher Columbus came to the Americas, several civilizations had formed that boasted of large cities such as:

  • Cahokia
  • Tenochtitlan
  • Cholula

These cities were built on maize cultivation which allowed for huge populations to be fed which led to a population increase that then led to the cities growing even larger.

In conclusion, maize cultivation allowed for the growth of large populations in pre-Columbian Mexico and when maize could no longer be cultivated, cities like Cahokia were abandoned.

Who was Nathaniel Bacon? A. the governor of the colony of Virginia B. the owner of the largest plantation in Virginia C. a wealt
Lilit [14]

Answer:

C. a wealthy backcountry settler in Virginia

Explanation:

In 1673, he arrived from England to Virginia, where he acquired two plantations in the western territories bordering with the Indians. Protecting the interests of planters and farmers whose lands were in the west of the colony, he demanded decisive action by the colony administration to oust and exterminate the Indians, criticizing the governor and his entourage for their passivity and unwillingness to lose income from profitable trade with the Indian tribes. For disobedience to the governor, Nathaniel Bacon was declared a rebel. In the summer of 1676 he captured the capital of the colony - Jamestown - and forced the legislative assembly of the colony to adopt a series of decrees known as the Bacon's Laws.
