Answer:

E) Man succumbs to pride.

Explanation:

"Siren Song" is written from the perspective of the siren herself, trying to lure in the sailors.  The reason why the poem is about a man succumbing to pride is because later on in the poem she tells the sailors that "I will tell the secret to you,  / to you, only to you.  / Come closer. This song  / is a cry for help: Help me!  / Only you, only you can,  / you are unique" (lines 19-24). This line is about the siren telling the man that only he can save her from her misery because he is special. This pride that she is giving him is what causes him to jump overboard to try and help her, ultimately leading to his death. As the siren states, "Alas  / it is a boring song  / but it works every time." (lines 25-27). Hope this helps!

Read the paragraph from "A Four-Hundred Year-Old Woman" and answer the question.
galina1969 [7]
The answer is Louis and Clark! 2 very brave men! O beautiful for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above thy fruited plain
America, America
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea
O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness
America, America
God mend thine every flaw
Confirm thy soul in self control
Thy liberty in law
O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life
America, America
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears
America, America
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea
O beautiful for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above thy fruited plain
America, America
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea
