The silk road was one of the most important trade routes of history due to the fact that religions and innovations spread. Many innovations spread through the routes like gunpowder, and wartime techniques. Religions such as Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam spread. The silk road also allowed the Mongols to rise to power and create the largest empire in the worlds history (even bigger than the romans or ottomans). It was also the primary spreader of disease such as black death.
