Answer: To The City Council:

I believe that a citywide Juneteenth celebration should be started this year, and be an annual celebration.

Juneteenth has become an annual celebration all across the United States. It has also been known as Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, Second Independence Day, and Liberation Day. It marks the day that the last enslaved people were freed in Texas in 1865. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed two years earlier, many enslaved people in the South did not know they were free until Juneteenth. Ever since, the descendants of enslaved peoples and their friends and supporters have celebrated this special day of freedom.

Our citywide activities should be similar to traditional celebrations, and feature speeches by local leadership on the meaning of Juneteenth, dramatic presentations by local actors and singers, cooking lessons that recreate traditional foods, and traditional music performances, such as the important song "Lift Every Voice and Sing."

This celebration would be a tremendous way to unify our community around an important day for us, and should be held annually.

Sincerely,

The Battle of Gettysburg:

The Battle of Gettysburg was the most important battle of the civil war. The Battle of Gettysburg would become the climatic conclusion for the Confederated that fought in the Civil War. What transpired in the three days of this battle has significantly influenced today’s society. Because of this battle, the Union gained their lead on the Confederate forces and won the civil war, which protected the county from falling apart and completing their ultimate goal. This battle had several ups and downs that changed the course of events. However, one dramatic turning point in the war stands out above all others, The Battle of Gettysburg. From the beginning, the Union was destined to become victorious through superior military tactics and a more industrialization. However, several things must first happen to lead up to this dramatic battle. It was a defining battle of the Civil War. It marked a turning point for the Union as well as for the Confederates, though it was not the final battle to be fought. There were many events prior the actual battle that had led to this clash.
