The Farmers' Alliance was an organized agrarian economic movement among American farmers that developed and flourished in the 1870s and 1880s. First formed in 1876 in Lampasas, Texas, the Alliance was designed to promote higher commodity prices through collective action by groups of individual farmers.
Origins and Growth. A small group of farmers in Lampasas County, Texas, formed the Farmers' Alliance around 1875. The organization grew slowly and unsteadily; not until 1886 did it begin to expand into other states
