The framers believed that direct democracy was not the best form of government because C - direct democracies function best in small communities, the U.S. is too large for this form of government to work.

In a direct democracy, power lay with individuals who needed to vote to:

 • put someone in power
 • enact legislation

Everyone who is eligible to vote gets to vote in a direct democracy. This can be quite complicated when the population of the society is high as it will present some logistical challenges.

It was with this in mind that the framers decided not to use direct democracy.

We can therefore conclude that, the framers did not want to use direct democracy as the American population was simply too large to support direct democracy.

Why do some people object to the election of the president by direct popular vote???
natulia [17]
The idea is that some areas who have a higher population would always outweigh areas that have lower populations like California vs Montana. So to fix this they put in place the electoral college which allows areas with lower populations to have more say in voting processes. This is inherently undemocratic yet explains why a popular vote does not always matter.
