I think Douglass is trying to say, the woman is the passage is slave obviously. She is trying to do more than what is asked of her for more respect. Also, it seems that she doesn’t like education either. The last sentence even says, “...education and slavery were compatible with each other.” Meaning they have the same worth.

I Believe Fredrick Douglass is stating, that the lady in the section is a slave clearly. She is eager to accomplish more than what is wanted of her for more regard. Likewise, it appears that she doesn't care for instruction either.When every the slave would read it would make the owner rage The last sentence even says, "...education and subjugation were perfect with each other." Meaning they have a similar worth. And black and white are no different from each other. I hope me helped.
