What does young Langston Hughes expect to happen at the revival? What happens instead?
Marizza181 [45]

Answer:

He expected to be saved but instead he lost his faith

Explanation:

Young langston went to the church revival with his aunt with the hope that he would encounter Christ. But instead his experience ended up making him change his belief system spiritually.

The story shows disappointment, as hughes had to lie about his feelings and truth to everyone. This childhood event changed his life forever. After waiting for a long time in the church to see a light that signified he had been saved by Jesus, he did not and lied to everyone about it. This event made him lose trust that there was a Jesus.

1. What did the man think when the boy did not return at once?
vaieri [72.5K]

Answer:

1. What did the man think when the boy did not return at once?

The man thought that the boy ran away with the money.

2. What took the boy too long to return?

The boy lost the money, so he had to clean the utensils of the tea vendor to have the cup of tea.

3. What do you think the man felt after knowing it? Why?

I think that he felt bad about himself because he judged the boy by his appearance.

4. Does his experience reflect bias or prejudice? Why?

His experience reflects prejudice because he judged the boy by his attire. He had the prejudice that poor or pathetically dressed boys are thefts.

5. How can we avoid this kind of situation?

We can avoid this kind of situation by learning through different experiences and texts, like this story. Also, we should reflect on our actions and thoughts to identify prejudices and work on them.

Explanation:

1.We can see that the man thought that the boy ran away with the money in the fourth paragraph when he says, "Now I was sure that the child ran away the money..."

2. The answer to question number two is in the last paragraph when the boy explains what happened "He told me, he lost the 5 rupees coin and so he had to clean the utensils of the tea vendor, to bring me a cup of tea."

3. It is not in the story, but we can infer that he felt bad since he judged someone wrong and unfairly since the boy was not a thief. He only was pathetically dressed.

4. We can see that his experience reflects prejudice since he has a concept in his mind about people dressed in dirty and torn clothes. He relates the appearance of someone with traits, so there's prejudice because he is judging the boy without knowing him.

5. There are many ways to avoid these situations. One of them is by educating ourselves and reflecting on our thought and actions. We can do this in different ways. For example, by reading, talking with others about their experiences and point of view, or thinking about our actions.

Define irony in your own words. What are the three types of Irony? Give an example of each type of irony.
frutty [35]

Answer:

allocated narratives Irony is a way for a character to communicate his or her humor; it is typically expressed in a sarcastic manner, implying the inverse of what is stated. Irony is classified into three types: verbal, situational, and dramatic. The tale " Orientation " has verbal irony as a result of the character teaching how to operate the microwave. The short tale " The Guest " employs situational irony when the protagonist stays in the barn with the prisoner. The short tale " Good Country People " employs dramatic irony when the viewer learns what Mrs. Hopewell thinks of her employees. Irony is defined as a character's expression of humor.
