I believe it's the word "privilege". In literature, tone is the author's attitude toward the subject he/she is writing about. Marian Angerson's tone is elevated here, which tells us that she really is excited to exercise this privilege, as a representative of the workers' class of women.

The correct answer is the word "enthusiastic", it sets the tone for the excerpt because it denotes gratefulness and awe of the action’s women have done and what they have achieved despite the obstacles they had to face. So basically, the author is glad to be able to speak about the topic with another person.

In Sherlock Holmes, what suggests that Watson has an expert in understanding of the habits of Holmes?
sergejj [24]

Answer:

  • “To me, who knew his every mood and habit, his attitude and manner told their own story. He was at work again.” (paragraph 1)
  • “His manner was not effusive. It seldom was; but he was glad, I think, to see me.” (paragraph 2)

Explanation:

The two lines above show that Watson had become an expert in studying Holmes. In the first, Watson himself, admits that he knows every mood and habit of Holmes and how they told their own stories. He was able to deduce from them that Holmes was working again.

In the second line, Watson was able to deduce that Holmes was glad to see him even though his manner was not revealing this.
