This image was probably added with the aim of glorifying the rule of the Mongols.

The image is an illustration that shows astronomers in the Mongolian empire writing and making calculations. Tools of astronomy are also placed by their side in the beginning of the 14th century.

From my observation, one likely reason why this image was included was to boost the image of the Mongol court and also to put glory in the Mongolian rule.
