et it, thank you:))
Imitation Exercise Essay: Select one of the previously read passages from your text to copy and then write a passage of your own imitating the voice, rhetorical style, and vocabulary of the author. As you write, remember that essays will be graded with a six-point rubric based on the AP* nine-point scale. High-scoring essays will demonstrate that the writer considered the prompt carefully and responded to it insightfully with strong supporting evidence. These essays will also exhibit stylistic sophistication, including purposeful organization, precise diction, and engaging syntax. Whether or not the essay is timed, conforming to the conventions of standard American English is expected. You may use any of the tools available to you, such the Checklist, Spellchecker, or Graphic Organizer.

 • What this activity is asking for is that you choose and read a passage from the text and imitate the way the author writes.
 • You must pay attention to the author's voice, rhetorical style, and vocabulary, which means, you must notice which words the author uses and how he uses them.
 • If the author uses strong words to convey, for example, fear (terrified, frightening, scared to death), you must imitate that in your writing.
 • If the author expresses a certain opinion about a topic (example: immediate action must be taken to save the world), you must replicate that.
 • Notice if the author tells a story, or if he provides an argument and evidence to convince readers of something, or if he describes and event or place. Whatever it is that he does, you must also do that in your writing.

- In order to help you out, here are the definitions for the words used in the instructions:

- Voice is a term that refers to how the author conveys his personality and attitudes through his writing.

- To express voice, the author makes use of vocabulary, rhetorical style, punctuation, etc. (see definitions below).

- Vocabulary refers to the words used by the author. Does he use simple words known by everyone? Does he use formal, difficult words? Are his words strong, powerful, vivid?

- Finally, rhetorical style may refer to more than one thing.

- For example, it may refer to type of text the author writes:

1. Narrative is the style in which a story is told.

2. Persuasive is the one in which the author tries to convince readers of something.

3. Expository (like a textbook) simply conveys information.

- It may also refer to how the author conveys his message. Does he use figurative language? If so, what does he use? Metaphor, simile, personification...?

- In conclusion, what you must do is pay attention to what the author is saying and how he says it, and imitate that in your writing.
